“Standing Together” was created in 2024 for Gitga'at First Nation red t-shirt awareness day.
"I have a female human figure in the centre and three additional female faces in the design: two faces on the sides of her and one within the body.
All four faces are identified as female because they are wearing a labret. They are all matriarchs. I wanted to portray the power of women—women standing together for those who have been stolen and no longer have a voice and for the children of the future.
The red hand speaks to the symbolism of the MMIW movement, representing the thousands of women who have been silenced. Button blankets are powerful statements of identity. I added the buttons to the design to bring it all together. The buttons along the border represent the women who are missing. "
